First person Shooter

April 10, 2006 at 1:31 am (Uncategorized)

The video was about a game called counter strike. It is a game of skill and strategy and it is very popular among teenagers. It is so popular that some teenagers play it too often and are addicted to it. They drop out of school and some parent’s think that the game teaches their children violence. Study shows that if a teenager is on the internet he or she will play at least 17 hours a week. The boy in the video, Griffin, dropped out of school and even in family life because he was playing too much. His parents even tried to take away his computer but he just stayed at a friend’s place or out in an internet café to play. Sometimes he doesn’t even come home and his parents get very worried. His father asks his sons parents if they were having the same problem and most of them had worst problems. One of the parents said that her son threw a coffee table across the room and grabbed her hand as though he wanted her dead because she tried to stop him playing.

To try and give the boys some unique perspective about life, Griffin’s father drives them all to Washington DC for a counter Strike tournament, which was a 17 hour drive. On the way the father tries to make them see that there is more to life than games. At the tournament the boys challenge other groups, called clans, to matches and keep going until there is an overall winner. At the end, the boys parent s realise that there is more to this game than they thought. The game gives the boys new indentities.

E3 is a games and electronic fare. Many people go to see and test out new games and gadgets. Although the products are mainly aimed at children, only over 18 year olds are allowed entry. Parents blame violent game for teaching their children to murder, but study shows that kids who ply games are more co-ordinated and do more better academically than kids who don’t.

this blog will show you how to make the balls go fast and accurate in the goals. i’ll only show you how to do the one that shoots up because if i do all of them it will take forever.
the first step is to create a room and a ball sprite. place the ball somewhere in the middle of the room and follow these steps.

1. in the ball object properties, add event:step.

2. in the Step Event:

Mr. Kerr gave out extensions on the soccer ball challenge for problem number 6. we had to make the ball go fast and accurate into the goals and a sloppy one. we had to make goals in different directions. it was a bit tricky but i got the hang of it and it was pretty easy. i will show you how to complete this in the next blog.

Problem 5) Make one object follow another object.

I had a bit of difficulty with this problem because first I didn’t know how to do it. Then a friend showed me and i did it.

follow these steps.

1. get you two objects and decide which one is going to be follower (a) and the followed (b).

2. go to object properties of (a) and add event create.

3. drag the start moving in direction in and click on all the outer tabs. excluding the middle one. click ok.
4. add event Step.

5. in the move tab drag the move towards point into actions.

6. type in the name of the object that you want follow with .x in both X and Y.
7. type in your speed and click ok.

8. add event ,other, outside room.

9. then in the move tab drag jump to a random position into actions and click ok.

10. repeat steps 2, 3, 8 and 9 for the object (b).

this was the way that i did it. i had a little help from fly2dasky. it wasn’t really helpful but i figured it out in the end.

Problem 4

Problem 4) When a bullet hits a character, the character explodes and the explosion then disappears. Provide information about how to play the demonstration in Game Information.

This problem is simple.
1. create a explode sprite and name it explode.

2. add it to object and press OK.

thats the first few steps. Now:

1. click on your enemy object properties and make collision event.

2. select the bullet and in main 1 tab drag change instance.

3. type in your explode sprite name and click OK.

your done.
this problem was easy enough to work out by myself and i didn’t need to use the hints provided.

problem 2

Problem 2: Make an animation from a strip sheet of stills.
a) one where all the slides are the same size (easier)
b) another where the slides are of varying sizes (harder)

The solution to this problem is a bit more advanced than the first problem. if you follow the hints you should go okay.
this is how i did it:

1. Go to add sprite.
2. Do not load a sprite and click edit sprite.
3. In the sprite editor go to file.
4. Select create from strip and open images.
5. Type in the number of images that you want to select.
6. Play around with the width and height until your images fit into the boxes.
7. Click OK.
8. Click preview to see your animation.

If you want to create a strip image where the pictures are of varying sizes then:
1. Go to add sprite.
2. Do not load a sprite and click edit sprite.
3. In the sprite editor go to file.
4. Select create from strip and open images.
5. Only select 1 image and make sure it id the biggest one first.
6. Click OK.
7. Go to file and add from strip.
8. Then choose your next pic but do not change the size.
9. Click OK and Click the pen at the top to edit the image.
10. Do this to as many images you want and then you can rearrange their order by clicking on the image and using the right and left arrows at the top to move them.

this is the way that i did it. i figured it out with some of Mr. Kerrs help. there are probably many other ways to solve this problem.
